KEY LARGO, FL – EXECUTIVE DECISION WINS $39,000 +++ AT SKIPPERS DOCKSIDE! Skippers Dockside Restaurant, in Key Largo, hosted the 4th Annual Skippers Dolphin Tournament with one hundred and eleven teams made up of 395 anglers competing for over $100,000 in cash plus amazing trophies from King Sailfish Mounts. Anglers were allowed to weigh two fish on Saturday and two on Sunday but it would be the combined weight of three fish that would determine the winners.
Last year’s winners Executive Decision, of Ocala, FL, would repeat with another win, weighing-in 73.8 pounds of dolphin. The combined weight of their largest 3 fish, a 27.9 pounder plus a 25.7 and 20.2 would win them $32,350.00! Executive Decision also weighed in the 3rd largest fish on both days the 25.7 and 27.9 pounder to win an additional $7,270.00.
Second Place team was Mangler from Hialeah, FL catching a combined weight of 57.6 pounds to win $19,262.50. The team weighed in fish at 20.7, 20.1 and 16.8.
Third Place team was Island Runner from the Upper Keys and Punta Gorda, FL with a 36.6, 11.7, and 7.2 for a total of 55.5 pounds and $11,175.00. Mark Wheaton’s 36.6 pounder was the largest of the tournament and junior angler Connor Crouge from Punta Gorda had the third largest fish for a junior angler netting the team an additional $12,575.00.
Fourth Place team was Contagious, Captained by Brian Cone, with a team of anglers from Goulds, FL, and Tavernier, FL, with a 32.4 (second largest fish on day 2), 10.6 and 9.8 totaling 52.8 pounds winning $12,737.50.
Fifth Place team was won by one-tenth of a pound on the CCU Later, all from the east coast of Florida, catching 18.2, 17.5 and 12.9 pounds totaling 48.6 to win $1,000.00.
Sixth Place team was Pau’ Hana from Hollywood, FL. Alec Smith caught the largest fish by a junior angler a 32.1 pounder that was combined with the teams 11.1 and 5.3 for a total of 48.5 pounds to win $3,500.00.
William Raney of Florida City, FL landed the second largest fish on day two that was also the largest fish caught by a senior angler winning $11,405.00 aboard the Live Action. Hialeah Florida resident Stephanie Schank caught a 19.6 pounder to win $2,000.00 and first place in the ladies division. Second place and $1,000.00 would go to Kaitlyn McCullough of Lighthouse Point, FL with a 17.5 pounder. Brock Stoky from Key Largo, FL took second place in the junior division winning $250.00 with at 22.2-pound fish.
Largest other species fish winners each took home King Sailfish Trophies and $750.00 each including Corey Scherber’s 26.9-pound Tuna on the Diggers and Docs from Tavernier, FL. Largest Wahoo was 11.1 pounds on the Shaka Life caught by Cliff Baldwin from Miami, FL and largest Kingfish was caught by Steve Carlson of Key Largo, FL aboard the Miller Time a 7.2 pounder.
Skippers Dockside Restaurant showcased their fabulous food for the kick-off party sponsored by Gus’ Toy Box and Contender Boats, which included hand passed appetizers, plus never-ending crab legs and shrimp cocktail. Islamorada Beer Company kept the beer flowing from kick off until the awards party which was done up right with perfectly cooked prime rib, whole smoked grouper, racks & racks of bbq ribs and host of other delectable delights, not to mention the amazing coconut bread pudding!!!
