Fishing Report
Fishbuster Charters’ Captain Dave Hanson reported, “Monday, 8/18, as Tropical Storm Fay approached and the meteorologists speculated as to her course and strength, the winds began to pick up and the seas churned in that angry way that they do just before a storm.

Lower Keys Fishing Report
We dodged another bullet. This storm got less attention than Fay and seemed to be a little worse. The water came over my dock this time. If it had been any closer it could have been ugly. If we could go a few weeks without a storm the fishing might level off. It has been a little tough to get a good picture of what the trends are.

Ladies and Gentlemen!
Thank you for your patience over the past two months. I haven’t written a report because I’ve been in Alaska, again working as a guide at the Goodnews River Lodge. At the lodge we’ve been fishing for five species of Pacific salmon, rainbow trout, dolly varden, and grayling. The fishing was once again fantastic, truly fantasy fishing. Many days you get tired of catching fish. The last salmon to come in are the silver (coho) salmon, which average 10 to 12 pounds. A decent fly caster can catch 40 or 50 a day. |
