starting fly fishing

i am thinking of purchasing a fly rod for saltwater.i usually fish the flats and was wondering what weight fly line is recommended for general purposes. is there a back issue that deals with this subject.

Hey Jones. Welcome to the forum. Well, I can tell you that a 7/8 weight line is probably about right for nearly every type of coastal fishing in saltwater around the state of Florida. If you are planning to target tarpon and pelagic species in the future, then you might want to bump it up to 9/10 or even 12/14 when you become a seasoned veteran. Hope this helps and keep em tight!
