July/August Lower Keys Fishing Report:

By: Captain Andrew Tipler - Last Cast Charters

Summer is here and one thing is for sure, the fishing will be as blistering as the tropical sun! During the months of July and August, success can be as simple as concentrating your efforts early and late in the day. Fishing under the light of the moon takes off with midday relegated to relaxing in the shade, perhaps with a frozen concoction and fine cigar. For those of you that have had the opportunity to visit the Keys during the winter but were blown away by high winds and rough seas, now is the time to get in on some fantastic summer fishing. Calm seas and light winds offer visitors the perfect conditions to venture offshore. Just remember to protect yourself from the scorching sun and drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

June 3rd, Lake St. Clair Fishing Report From The Michigan Side

LOWER KEYS FISHING REPORT BY CAPTAIN FRANK PIKU FROM HIS JAGUAR 35' CATAMARAN

WELL we’ve all been waiting for the Dolphin season to kick in and it has in a big way. All you have to do is find a weed line, or Birds diving over them or even a slick and get hooked up. Be sure to keep the first one caught in the water close to the boat. This will usually keep the school around the boat so the fun can be on. A little bit of tossing some chopped up ballyhoo or any bait will keep the interested and biting. Don’t over do it but enough to keep them in a feeding frenzy. Then get out the light tackle and toss them some jigs or even flies with a fly rod outfit. This is the fun time don’t be a hog tho just keep enough for your frying pan and let the rest go. These fish are spanning and we want to keep them going and multiplying too.

July 3rd, 2008  Tampa Bay area fishing report

Changes in Tampa Bay are underway!

Fishing has changed, but overall, it has remained awesome!  Over the next few weeks it’s going to continue to change bit by bit.  I do know one thing for sure… in about two weeks the bait will be very plentiful!  You will be able to find more bait than you would ever need because the small bait has moved in the area and its growing quickly.

July 2nd, 2008 – Warm Weather – Hot Fishing

The full force of summer has hit the central east coast of Florida with warmer temperatures, higher humidity, frequent afternoon thunderstorms and sizzling fishing. Along with the changes in the seasons, we have experienced several significant changes in our charter activities as well - Capt. Rocky went on an extended, non-fishing related, mission trip to Mongolia - Capt. Roland exchanged his 2005 Pathfinder for a 2008 edition, complete with a bigger Yamaha engine and Power Pole - Capt. Peter finally received his long-awaited official notification from the US Coast Guard that his certification process is complete. These changes have been exciting to us personally but we are also excited to report on great fishing action as well. Read on!

For the past 12 days I have been in the Bahamas and have enjoyed some of the best 12 days of fishing you could imagine.  Before we went to the Bahamas, I had some trips here.  We had a few swordfish trips both day and night.  The day trips produced a nice 230 pound swordfish, plus quite a few dolphin and also a sailfish.  There are not many places where you can catch a few different species of billfish in one day and in South Florida the reality of either a swordfish or a sailfish can happen on any given day. Sometimes you may be lucky enough and catch both on the same day.  Our night trip also produced a swordfish as well.  We did have one daytime swordfish trip that we didn’t catch a sword, but the weather was pretty lousy and we had good anglers on board that were interested in the daytime techniques as these guys have caught plenty of swordfish at night.
