July 14th, Lake St. Clair Fishing Report From The Michigan Side

ALEX’S FISHING DAY,

MY grand son Alex left today for a 3-week trip to CHINA as a guest of the Chinese Government. He was selected to go with 300 US invited young People to visit China before the Olympics. This is to introduce him to China and their young people. To meet and make friends with. He’s on his way today, nervous but excited. What a great opportunity!!!!!!!!!!!! He was invited to Sail on what would have been his first Mackinaw to Port Huron Sail Race starting today too. There’s next year for that.

I invited him to go fishing with me on Friday and bring some of his friends too. Alex, Reid Dixon, and Sammy Barbour along with my son Chris. We made the trip to the Canadian side of Lake St. Clair.

7-14-08 fishing report.

Everyday is different but we are catching fish.

It’s challenging if you try to target specific species but we are finding hungry fish.  Tarpon have slowed down for now. We do have plenty fish and I do expect them to do better with the stronger tides this week on the full moon. With fewer captains pursuing tarpon because of the cost of fuel it’s not as easy to keep up with em as usual.  I am looking as I can and will keep you up to date as I can.  We took some kids out Friday and let them help us catch some minnows on the Sabiki rigs for tarpon bait.  The kids will had a fun experience and we captured some bait to tarpon fish with, everyone wins.    We did not see anything along local beaches so we ended up catching a few snook and 7 redfish perfect slot sized.  Snapper teased us but did not bite fast enough for the kids today.

Snookin’ in Stuart

I had a great opportunity to take my eleven year old grandson on a fishing getaway this past week. We packed our bags and headed south for the River Palms Cottages and Fish Camp in Jensen Beach. Only a little more than a two hour drive from Merritt Island, this quaint destination is a fisherman’s paradise. There are nearby boat ramps at the causeways and a dock on the Indian River to come home to each day.

The weather did not cooperate too well, as each morning the winds were blowing at about 10 miles per hour or more, from the southeast. The catching was slow, but the fishing and the experience with by grandson was the best.

INSHORE:

Summer heat has sure taken over along the Treasure Coast. Hot temperatures has warmed up the water and it has been an early bite most of the week. Look to deeper water after the sun heats things up out there. Fishing has been up and down this week. Most of the action has been around the turning basin with many anglers out to challenge the hoards of Spanish macks and bonitos that are chasing the schools of baitfish around the inlet.

FLY HOOKER SPORTFISHING, Cabo Fish Report July 14th, 2008

WEATHER   We had a very pleasing change in the weather this past week.  The clouds moved in, a slight breeze was with us almost every day and our nighttime lows dropped to the mid 70’s.  Almost every morning we had 75 degrees on the thermometer and in the afternoons we were seeing low 90’s.  The humidity was up, the cloud cover worked that out for us, but all in all the weather was about as good as you could wish for this time of year.

July 10th, 2008  Tampa Bay area fishing report

Spotlight is redfish in Tampa Bay!

Change is in Tampa Bay and it’s for the better!  Each fish has its time in the spotlight, and the tarpons’ time is about up.  But…move over tarpon because here come the redfish!  Over the past few weeks the tarpon bite has decreased, but the redfish bite has made up for it, and the snook and trout bite has remained the constant.
