the yacht hog wild profile shot Bahamas Report week or April 27, 2008  by Capt. Jason Wright

We Started fishing at 26°37'52.02"N 75°57'9.36"W

Just East of Great Abaco Island in 2693 Fathoms or water . We Slow trolled some rigged ballyhoo with a Pink and chartreuse skirt over the head . Over the next several hours we ended up with 3 Blue Marlin all tagged and released estimated average weight was around 300 or so.

Day two of our expedition we fished for Yellowfin Tuna we started about 17 miles to the east of Eleuthera Island we trolled a spread of daisy chains we trolled a total of 6 baits using a combination of Black Bart Lures including Black Bart 1656 Angle Nose Lure we picked up 12 yellowfin before lunch

Later in the day we moved south around 12 miles we spotted some floating debris . We decided to try for some Dorado , so we put out a bucket of Feeding Frenzy Offshore Formula Chum . We could instantly see the dorado coming accompanied by enormous amounts of yellowtail . We were using light spinning reels with spro 1oz yellow bucktail jigs with 3ft of Fluorocarbon leader and we also used live silver sides on a 3/0 hook we caught 12 dorado and 5 yellowfin in a matter of an hour or so .

We have noticed that the Yellowfin Tuna in the Bahamas are running and Chasing anything with pink and green colors ,they are in moderately deep water that is about 79 degrees with a swift current .

The Dorado are around structure as usual , we have found that this time of year Spro Bucktail Jigs in yellow and white work the best for you average size fish . We picked up a few dorado on a Rigged ballyhoo also a few on live Google Eyes.

Marlin are still a little deep but they are making the venture to the surface to take our baits. We have seen that they are currently staying in swift current around the breaks of the current . Troll rigged ballyhoo with green ,purple or pink shirts for surface baits . Use a swimming angle head lure for the deeper fish in black or green color , also Mackerel rigged to dive seems to work fine also .

There also seems to be an abundance of bait on the corner of the Islands . With tons of Bonefish spotted from the boat. We wasn’t equipped to approach them on this trip but maybe next time.

That is all for now wishing you tight lines and screaming reels .
