The sailfish tournament season has kicked off in the Stuart area this week and a good number of fish have been released. Twenty-two boats had a three day total of one hundred and seventy-two fish. At least two boats had a daily total of nine fish each which is pretty good for a day of fishing.

There was also a lot of dolphin caught that did not count in the totals. We had a good catch the other day in around one hundred and twenty feet of water. Kings were hitting the ballyhoo as we were letting the baits out.

We boated a couple and headed for deeper water. Within five minutes we had our first sail in about one hundred and eighty feet. We found a nice edge with weed and before long three rods went off with dolphin jumping behind the boat. We managed to put two in the box and continued trolling. We saw plenty of flyers and sailfish chasing them but only hooked the one earlier. After another double header on dolphin we decide to call it a day when the action slowed. We had plenty of big Spanish mackerel on a previous trip and enjoyed the filets that we smoked. Just come out the St. Lucie inlet and head south towards Peck’s Lake, Look for the birds, and either troll or throw any shiny jig into the fracas and you will catch fish. Look for pompano at the Jensen Causeway and on Sailfish Flats by the House of Refuge. Croaker and black drum are holding at the bridges and can be caught on shrimp tipped jigs. Snook season ends on December 15th so get your last shot at these fish this week. Plenty of fish to be had, so get out and enjoy. More later.
