Exclusive Report
These guys can find oil in 2,000-plus feet of Gulf water, so you figure finding fish would be a no-brainer. Richard Lanthier and Pete Bergeron, along with their ladies Lisa and Kathy, chartered Capt. Chris Johnson and SeaSquared specifically to catch mangrove snapper, which Richard says is the best-eating fish on the planet. Conditions were ideal with the wind and the current in the same direction and good water clarity. Capt. Chris took them to one of his favorite wrecks, put the chum in the water and the mangies appeared as if on cue. They caught many, many fish, releasing all under 14 inches. In all, they keep 12 of the larger mangroves and 4 yellowtails in the 15-inch class. Lisa caught the largest mangie at 3.5 pounds, which entitled her to bragging rights over cocktails back at the dock. Shown L-R: Pete and Kathy Bergeron of Houston, Lisa Birdsong and Richard Lanthier of Montgomery TX.
