Record 50 Sailfish Caught in One Day off Marathon

Marathon, FL Keys - Team Silent Hunter, led by Capt. B.J. Meyer, caught and released a record 50 sailfish off Marathon today. Fresh off their sixth place win in the 2012 World Sailfish Championship, the Marathon-based team opted for a day of fun fishing.

Meyer and his five-man team left the dock at about 12:45 this afternoon. They quickly caught 35 mullet and headed out looking for tailers.

They went offshore of Sombrero Light on the color change in 130 feet of water and immediately found two sailfish tailing. They pitched a bait for a rapid double hookup, and the action never let up.

By 4:30, they had caught and released 50 sailfish on 20-pound spin tackle.

Meyer exclaimed, "It was the most incredible day of fishing I have ever experienced. There's no describing the mass quantity of sailfish. My team really showed their colors and performed as a cohesive unit."

In April 2009, Pompano Beach-based Vitamin Sea Too caught and released a record 50 sailfish during a practice day in Key West for the World Sailfish Championship.

By all indications, Team Silent Hunter has matched that record.

Capt. B.J. Meyer and the Silent Hunter fleet and crew are docked at the 7 Mile Marina, MM 47.5 in Marathon Florida Keys.  Meyer can be reached at 305-896-6342, http://shcharters.com.
