Tricky fishing in January!!!

Fishing in January in North Florida can be from one extreme to the other. Plenty of fronts moving thru that bring up and down temperatures and very windy day's and calm days'.

I will say that it does take a few calm days after a front for the fish to get back on track. This time of year I target mostly Trout. They are usually on the small side but you can easily catch 30 to 40 when you find them bunched up.

On those perfect days when we have a good low tide I will try the Reds. They are always there but not always feeding. They kind of bunch up on the flats and you can almost touch them before they move. Every once in a while you will get a few of them to feed.

Getting to a trip I had last Friday the 18th it was one of those perfect winter days. One thing is I had two young kids who had never really fished. One of the most rewarding things in my business is seeing the smile on a kids face when they catch a fish.

My party was Andrew Rodgers his father Jack and his two sons Zach and Hayden. Nothing like doing something with your family even if it is not fishing just being together is special. I am a very strong family oriented person and also try to spend as much time with my family as I can.

We started off Trout fishing and it was great. We caught at least 2 dozen Trout mostly small but it sure made the kids happy and the adults also. At the end of the trip the tide was perfect to give the Red fish a quick try. They weren?t very interested but Andrew was able to get that one lucky bite to cap off a great morning in January.

Thanks again for a great time guys. Till next time, Tight Lines Capt. James Howard (904)651-9557 www.gofishjax.com
