March 19th, 2008 Fishing Report
It's short and sweet this week guys and gals. The east and
southeast wind are right on schedule and it makes it tough on us bay fishing.
Although this is what all the cobia fishermen are waiting on, the high winds
will push the fish right on up here and the next few weeks it should be hot
Ling fishing.
Redfish is some of the best action for inshore anglers. In
the river mouths and canals or around residential docks in Santa Rosa Sound
slot fish are being found in pretty good numbers. Small schools of larger fish
are roaming the beaches to the east of Pensacola Pass. When you can get a low
surf condition these fish can be much easier to catch than the ones you'll find
in the bay.
Sheepshead and black drum are showing up in good numbers
around bridges, jetties, and other deep structures. If you can brave the wind
get you some live shrimp or fiddler crabs or both and take the youngsters out
for a day of inshore fun.
For those looking for Speckled Trout start you're day
outside of the canals on the flats in the bay and sound. You'll do best casting
a live shrimp on a free line with a 12 pound test fluorocarbon leader. I
haven't caught any big Specks yet but it won't be long before they start being
caught.
What do guides do on their days off? The best ones go fishing!
