Hot June Fishing!

On my last report I mentioned that the action had slowed a bit. Fortunately that slow period didn't linger very long. Over the last couple of weeks action as been very good. June is normally a month were anglers have to decide between fishing over the edge of the reefs or running offshore in search of dolphin and wahoo.

The dolphin fishing has been fair but they have been lacking in size with a lot of fish being thrown back. Many of the larger dolphin have been caugh by anglers targeting other species closer to shore.

May and June usually mean mutton snapper to many anglers and there have been a few of them around. One popular way to target these fish is to anchor around the many artificial wreck that line our area. While fishing for the muttons it is not uncommon to catch blackfin tuna, kingfish, grouper, or even sailfish. The mutton action should continue to heat up as we approach the full moon later this month.

Before I wrap things up let's not forget the Rodney Dangerfield of the ocean. Bonito are making a strong presence and should continue grow in numbers. These hard fighting fish do a great job of filling the voids and keeping rods bent. Another great thing about bonito is that they allow anglers the opportunity to experiment with lighter lines and varying tackle such as a fly rod.
