Big Dolphin Everywhere!

This past month of Dolphin fishing has been phenomenal. Every time we have gone out we have got our limit on dolphin and got dolphin at least over 20 lbs. But on Sunday, it was the best dolphin fishing I have had in years.

We headed out that morning at 8:00 am on the 52' Viking "Qualifier". Joining us, as are anglers, Austin Forman, Gregory, Scott, Joe, John Carullo and little Austin Wood. As Team Qualifier's crew we had, Capt. Terry Claus Jr., Mate Trey Claus(myself), Mate Tyler Claus and Mate Nick Carullo.

We had a beautiful morning; the wind was less than five knots out of the east and clear blue skies. We started bait fishing caught plenty of threadfins around the markers just outside Key Biscayne. Capt. Terry headed out on the extremely fast sport fisherman going 28 knots. That’s what’s nice about being on the Qualifier, most of the time we are fishing instead of running due to how fast the boat is. While Nick, Capt. Terry and I were up in the tower looking for any signs of debris, from tropical storm Fay, birds and weeds, Mate Tyler was cutting up some fresh threadfins for dolphin. At 9:30 am, as soon as we hit 1000 ft I saw a bird on the water, The Capt took us over to the bird and looked in the water and saw five 20 lb dolphin. We through live threadfins and blue runners to the big dolphin and caught all five. It was a great way to start the day. We found a board next which gave us about 20 eight lb dolphin. Shortly after, we caught one more 20 lb dolphin on a weed ! line.

In addition, we kept catching 8-15 pound dolphin the rest of the day. To end the day, we caught four more 20-30 lb. dolphin underneath a frigit bird in 1200 ft. of water.

It was an incredible day of fishing off of Miami. We got reports from other boats that had the same success that day also. We got our limit of dolphin at 3:00 pm and all the dolphin were 8-30 pounds.
