7-14-08 fishing report.

Everyday is different but we are catching fish.

It’s challenging if you try to target specific species but we are finding hungry fish.  Tarpon have slowed down for now. We do have plenty fish and I do expect them to do better with the stronger tides this week on the full moon. With fewer captains pursuing tarpon because of the cost of fuel it’s not as easy to keep up with em as usual.  I am looking as I can and will keep you up to date as I can.  We took some kids out Friday and let them help us catch some minnows on the Sabiki rigs for tarpon bait.  The kids will had a fun experience and we captured some bait to tarpon fish with, everyone wins.    We did not see anything along local beaches so we ended up catching a few snook and 7 redfish perfect slot sized.  Snapper teased us but did not bite fast enough for the kids today.

Its summertime and the kid’s have taken over.  I have had kid’s most trip recently.  Julie Orick her 13 year old daughter do a fishing trip when they come down to visit the grandparents every year.  Kids are so lucky and catch all the big fish.  Mom made a big fuss about getting beat totally by her little girl but smiled all the time.  We caught a couple of big snook and some smaller fish.  We did look for tarpon while bait fishing but saw none.

Lauren, Gabe, Chance and Pearce are visiting from Atlanta and we spent several days exploring local waters during their two week visit.  We caught a bunch of snapper one day.  Then we found some big ten pound black drum and these monsters made their day.  I’ll try and get some photos up soon.  We finished off catching trout, ladyfish and small sharks.  The sharks were a big hit.  It is so much fun to see the smiles on kid’s faces as they enjoy

Dr. Tony and friend fished Tuesday morning and we had to work to Sabiki up a mess of big minnows but they produced some great redfish and trout.  On trout was bigger 27 inches, my idea of a gator for sure.  The minnows were large and we did better by cutting them in half and fishing em on the bottom.

We did find some numbers of tarpon around the Big Pass Saturday while the kids were catching up some crabs for bait this week.  With four kids it was too crowded to try and fish them before a storm ran us in.  I am tarpon fishing later this week and things look promising.  Let’s Go Fishin’ soon.
