June 2nd fishing reports
A brief Guatemalan fishing report from Captains, Anglers, and other unreliable sources.
The month started with Andy Lucassio, host of “The Northeast Angler” show aboard the Intensity. Captain Mike got him on the fish and the show should be out in July or August. Captain Andy had this to say about Casa Vieja Lodge and Captain Mike Sheeder: “We had a great time and Mike did everything we wanted. You couldn't of set us up with a better captain. I was glad he had him and he would fish with him again and again.” He went on to say “As for the Lodge, this is how they all should be. I wouldn't change a thing.” Thanks Capt Andy, hope to see you back soon!
Nextup was the crew of “Wanna’ Go Fishing” Watch for the Casa Vieja Lodge episode airing June 11th on ESPN2. Here is what the crew said about us: “Really really really great staff and captain. We had a great time shooting and I look forward to editing together a nice show! We had tons of sailfish and then got into a fantastic tuna bite. We'd love to come back, not just for the fishing but because the people with the lodge where just so on top of things.”
Mid month had Erik Lorentzen and the Release filming “The Hunt For Big Fish” with host Larry Dahlberg who in his 4 days of fishing, raised 91 sailfish, had 53 bites and 32 releases. He used everything from fly tackle to freshwater bass gear, a truly great angler.
Last week we had the distinct pleasure and honor to fish with one of the true living legends of the sport fishing community, I.G.F.A Hall of Famer, Mr. Mark Sosin. Mark and his crew spent the five days filming two episodes of the ''Saltwater Journal''. They released 14 sails, a number of 40# plus class dorado, and fulfilled one of his editors, and camera men's long time obsessions - to catch a Yelowfin tuna. Congratulations to Eric and Brian. Brian also caught a 25 # Yelowfin on the long wand (fly rod).
May, 24&25 Finds Jeff Clark and his son Will aboard the Release for a few days the first day the two went 9 for 16 bites on sails and raised 21.The pair also brought along some 12 lb spinners that Will used to release one of his sails. Day two we took a ride offshore looking for Spinner dolphins and happened along a log that was loaded with big dorado. The guys caught 3 more sails and 13 big dorado during the day with Jeff catching a 37 lber on 12 # after a 30 minute fight, and Will catching a 43 pounder on 12# after an hour and fifty minute fight. "This was probably one of the best catches this captain has seen in a long time." - Erik Lorentzen
May, 26 finds the pair aboard the ''Finest Kind'' with Capt. Chris Sheeder the pair released 6 out of 9 bites during there last day of the trip. The guys again were on some big dorodos with Will backing up his big dolphin from the day before with a 42 #er on 12 lb that only took him 30 minutes to land, Captain Chris could be heard from miles away reaffirming to Will that the first big one is always the hardest.

Jeff Clark –The Dorado fishing was off the hook. We caught dozens with very few being under 10 lbs. We easily caught 10 over 30 lbs. And by the way we also released 18 sails even though we spent 75% of our time catching Dorado on light tackle. We had a great trip.
With the price of swordfish reaching a 5 year low, our own Captain Jason Brice decided to forego Greenland for the Canary Islands. Since he had to go through England to get there he couldn’t resist the “Harry Potter” tour of London. Many of our clients don’t realize that Jason is our most scholarly captain. A huge fan of the Harry Potter series he someday hopes to take J. K. Rowling fishing. Maybe she’ll book him in the Canaries!
Here is a glimpse of Casa Vieja’s latest boat. We’re “testing the waters” and wondering if there are clients that would be interested in chartering a 34’ Sea Vee with twin 250hp Mercury Verados. A true South Florida Sailfish Machine. For more info go to http://www.casaviejalodge.com/packages.php
Give us a call, there's still time for your trip of a lifetime! We have dates available for the next couple of months and don’t forget that last year’s summer Marlin run was HOT HOT HOT! Summer rates with big discounts start July 1st as well,
so call Merijo Attong at (866) 846-9121 today to book your trip.

Mark Sosin – “Casa Vieja was beyond our expectations and the service ranks among the best I have experienced in a career that spans more than four decades. Antonio is terrific and one always has the feeling that he will take care of whatever is needed. If you have any doubting customers, I would be happy to tell them how great the service is at Casa Vieja. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. I would go back in an instant.”
