Marlin Mania in Guatemala Pacific Coast

The sizzling summer heat has brought marlin to the Pacific Coast in great numbers. Capt. Chris Sheeder breaks a Guatemala marlin release record in one day and our clients' summer vacation turns into a trip they say they will never forget.

Clients arrived at the Casa Vieja Lodge to take note of new construction and spend their day fishing. What Harry and son Curtis Bush were in for on their 4 day fishing excursion out weighed their sailfish stories from other clients that have been here.

Chris Sheeder writes, "On August 9th Guatemala saw another rare incredible marlin bite. The Father and son duo of Harry and Curtis Bush out of West Palm Beach, Florida fished aboard the Canaso out of the Casa Vieja Lodge with Capt. Chris Sheeder at the helm. The bites started early and continued through the day . Amazingly an unpresidented 10 blue marlin raised, 6 bites, 5 released and some impressive sizes too. Two fish were under 200 lbs, two were 300 lbs or bigger and the one was a whopper of 600 lbs. Just catching five blues in a day is not the story. That's been done before.....but not here in Guatemala. A fishery that is polluted with sailfish and is not known for blue marlin....That's huge and that's the real story!!!!! "

Captain Jake Jordan Fishing Report

Not only has Capt. Chris seen and caught marlin in the last 4 days, The Conga with Capt. Tyson on the 9th raised 7 marlin and released 3. On August 11, Sam Combs and wife Laurie were fishing with their boat the Teaser with Jose Valdez behind the wheel and they came in with 3 marlin raised and released 2. The grand totals for the Bush duo by the end of their fourth day fishing were 25 blue raised (150 lbs to 700 lbs, catching their 700 lb'er on the last day of fishing with Capt. Nicho Alvarenga), 16 to bite, releasing 9. The total raised marlin in the last four days among the three boats totaled 35. "The polluted waters of sailfish", as Capt. Chris Sheeder puts it, a total raise of 14 sails in 4 four days releasing 7. The photo taken by Curtis Bush, est. 300 lb is just one of the many .

As we sit here at the lodge talking about the last 4 days, the Bush duo stated, "The fishing was awesome, the captains and crew fantastic, the food wonderful and the service impeccable. We could not imagine 4 better days of fishing and we will definitely be back!

Even though the lodge is under construction, the Canaso and Spindrift are still running and as you can see....their releasing marlin!
