June 3rd, Lake St. Clair Fishing Report From The Michigan Side LOWER KEYS FISHING REPORT BY CAPTAIN FRANK PIKU FROM HIS JAGUAR 35' CATAMARAN WELL we’ve all been waiting for the Dolphin season to kick in and it has in a big way. All you have to do is find a weed line, or Birds diving over them or even a slick and get hooked up. Be sure to keep the first one caught in the water close to the boat. This will usually keep the school around the boat so the fun can be on. A little bit of tossing some chopped up ballyhoo or any bait will keep the interested and biting. Don’t over do it but enough to keep them in a feeding frenzy. Then get out the light tackle and toss them some jigs or even flies with a fly rod outfit. This is the fun time don’t be a hog tho just keep enough for your frying pan and let the rest go. These fish are spanning and we want to keep them going and multiplying too. We opened the Canadaian bass season this week Saturday. Had limit catches of BIG smallmouth bass. Some 4 and 5 lbs. All were released except for a few for the frying pan. By 11 am we were wore out catching bass. Everyone wanted to see if the Musklies were hungry too. ?????? Lines were pulled and the Muskike rods and reels came out. We started trolling in the smae area and after 30 minutes one reels clicker screamed off. This wasn't a small one either. My good friend John Burkard grabbed the rod and the rest of us clear the lines out. This wasn't going to be an easy battle. This one was ripping line of the reel at smoke speed. We finally had all the lines cleared out and I turned the boat towards this big boy. John slowly began to retrieve line back on the reel, he was almost spooled!!!!! After a good fight this Muskie took to the air and made some spectacular leaps. John was patient and let the fight go on. Wew finally got him to the side of the boat and my Brother netted this boy. After releaseing the lure we took several quick pictures and released this Muskie to be fought again in the future. This one is only a few inches from the 50": class so we want to meet up with him again. After holding him in the water and driving water thru his gills he swam away tired but healthy. We all congradulated John on his battle and called it a day. Hot fishing on Lake St. Clair. Come fishing and get the double treat Bass and Muskies or big Perch too. Walleyes are good eating and we catchem. Captain Frank 305 509 1547
