July 8th, Lake St. Clair Fishing Report From The Michigan Side TODAY WAS dream summer day. After a great 4th of July weekend the Johnson family fished aboard "Golden Streaker" for their annual fishing outting. Bill Johnson takes the family on an annual fishing trip. This was the 2nd year with Captain Frank. Perfect weather made it a dream day. BUT catching smallmouth bass was the target species. After the long holiday Captain Frank was worried that the fish were going to be hiding???? After a slow start where Charles age 11 caught most of the fish, his sister took over and landed the biggest one. We than moved to another secret spot that Captain Frank has, only to find another bass boat near it. We proceeded to hook into several nice bass right in front of the bass boat. They upped and drove off into the horizon after watching us catch several nice bass. My great mate Mike Duche helped Charles trying to un snag his line and in the process the rod and reel went overboard. Mike was astounded but I encouraged him to fish for the rod and reel. With some little instructions Mike hooked up to the line and retrieved the rod and reel his best catch of the day. In the mean time Bill hooked into a nice bass so all were happy. We than moved to another secret location just after another bass boat gave up on this spot. Charles hooked into another bass and it measured in a ½" longer than his sisters record catch earlier. Charles was a happy fisherman now that he took the lead in the size department. All the bass were released and father Bill suggested lets go after the real big ones MUSKIE of course. I was a little worried on how Charles the 11 year old would be able to handle a big Muskie????? We boogied over to the Canadian side of the lake to where I call Muskie alley. Mike had all the Muskie rods rigged and we had all of them {7} rods and reels out with all different sort of lures. \During a weed check one rod hooked up and Charles was ready. I had even strapped on a gimbaled harness around his waist. He was ready for the fight!!!! I was worried !!!! Charles calmly fought this fish while all the rest of us cleared all the other rods out of the water. After a short fight Charles won the battle and mike landed him in the giant Muskie net. After several quick pictures we made sure Mr. Muskie got plenty of water rushed thru his gills and with a quick whip of his tail he swam away unhurt.
This was Charles first Muskie ever. A good thing it wasn’t a giant one!!!! Charles was thrilled and it was the right size for him, He’s now a hooked Muskie angler and can’t wait to tackle the bigger ones in Lake St. Clair. We Boogied on home after a successful day of family fishing on "Golden Streaker" with Captain Frank You to can battle a big Muskie!!!! As last Wednesday, John Burkard landed a 48" a trophy fish. The MUSKIE are hot and biting now. Come fish with Captain Frank
