Boca Grande, Fl.Redfish are abundant in the basins and large pot holes behind Bull & Turtle bays on low tide. The fish have been eating well shortly after the tide starts in. Best patterns are shrimp imitations in size 4 colored tan, olive and brown. Seatrout to 24 inches are near the edges of the deepest basins, especially if the bottom is dark or has some grass on it. Best patterns are Clouser deep minnows in chartreuse. Bluefish and ladyfish have been consistent in the open water near the passes all week. Any fast moving pattern will work, but be aware the fish will stay near the bottom until mid-afternoon. A few pompano have been showing, but nothing consistent enough to target. I was privileged to fish with Dr. Gary Eaton this week. Gary is a surgeon from Missouri who spends a lot of time working with disabled people teaching them how to fly fish and tie flies. He is very active in Project Healing Waters, an organization the Federation of Fly Fishers supports that helps veterans learn better life skills through fly fishing. Gary caught seatrout, ladyfish and redfish in the basins behind Bull & Turtle bays. Earlier in the week Dusty Sprague, John Hand and I tested Dr. Eaton for his Master Certification. He passed easily. The MC is the FFF Master Certified Casting Instructor test. It put Dr. Eaton among the 160+ Masters in the world. The weather and tides indicate it is time to look for snook in the creeks and rivers that feed Charlotte Harbor. For the next two weeks I'll be fishing the redfish in the back country and searching the creeks for snook. It can be very exciting stuff. Why don't you come and join me.
