Yesterday’s 16 Hr Extended Day trip on the Viking Superstar turned out to be a good one. The weather couldn’t have better! Capt. Carl reports that…our first stop was very lively, according to the bottom machine. We anchored up, but they weren’t biting. We only ended up with a few gags and a red grouper. We sat for a while, hoping for them to turn on, but they never did, so we checked out another spot that produced similar results.

Our weather and fishing are awesome!

My intuition is on track; I figured this week would “kick it up a notch” and it kicked it up a few.  The big kingfish are here and we had fish every day we tried em from 30 – 40 pounds.  We are using 12-14 inch baits.  We are seeing a few tarpon but no bites yet.  Pompano are not thick but we have managed dinner on our trips this past week; and they are great.  We even found a bunch of cobia today and stayed away from the weekend crowds.  Life is great and the fish are into the spring time feed.  Baitfish are back and it should just get better for the next few months.

450 lb. Thresher Shark Caught and Released off Fort Lauderdale

There are some sea monsters off the coast of Fort Lauderdale right now.  Today’s fishing report is a 450 lb. thresher shark caught and released on one of our half day fishing charters.  These guys got to the boat in the morning and said, “We want to catch something giant!”   Well, they got their wish.  Capt. Adam went out to shark territory and put out a spread of big bloody baits on the top and on the bottom.  It was about an hour and a half into the trip when we got the bite.  The rod doubled over and the mate, Joey, yelled up, “FISH ON CAP’!!”  Without a second’s hesitation, Adam put the boat ahead with the engines and throttled up.  The hooks set deep into the fishes’ jaw and we strapped the angler into the fighting chair.  The fight was just beginning.
