May 27th 2008 Fishing Report.
Happy Memorial Day to all our friends and family that are serving and protecting our great country so I can fish for a living and my guest can come fish with me!
Fishing, Fishing, Fishing, if that is all that you are doing then give me a call, Catching, Catching, Catching, is what I’ve been doing. On last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s trips my guest caught over 100 slot Red Fish, now that’s something to brag about! If there is anyone out there that make claim to catching over 100 Reds in 18 hours, I want to talk to them.

Lower Keys Fishing Report
Memorial Day was a windy one. Hopefully everyone got a little fishing in before the winds picked up. There was a lot going on this past week with tarpon flooding the flats and dolphin roaming the depths.
Tarpon fishing went off over the past week. The worm hatch started just after the moon. It was not a full on flood of worms but more like a trickle. This seemed to be the case last year and it left some confused tarpon wandering the flats. There will still be quite a few fish in the area, as well as all the usual resident fish, but the tarpon fishing will likely taper off dramatically over the next week or so. The bonefishing was very good and there were also a few permit around. Let’s hope Sunday and Mondays high winds don’t drop the water temps too much. NE at 20kts is not exactly your typical weather pattern for this time of year. Flats fish are very sensitive to minor changes and a slight drop can send them running for deep water.

Gulf Grouper Fishing Report, May 27th 2008; Hernando Beach Florida
Fishing this spring is unbelievable. We are catching Gag and Red Grouper throughout the day everyday. Lately we have had the task of fighting Goliath Grouper. Almost every trip we get a shot at theses huge fish. Some are larger than others; however each one is a guaranteed battle that will hurt most people. You can look forward to plenty of Grouper, Grunts, and Mangrove Snapper. Dead threadfin herring is the preferred bait, left to stay still on the bottom will get you bit. Live bait works well, Pinfish, small Grunts, and Spot tails will do the trick most of the time.
