FLY HOOKER SPORTFISHING, Cabo Fishing Report, May 19th - 25th, 2008

WEATHER:   This week brought us cooler weather than we have had for a while.  Our nights were down in the low 60’s; I saw our thermometer read 61 degrees here at the house one morning.  Our daytime highs were in the high 80’s.  On Wednesday the wind started to blow, and blow hard, from the northwest, occasionally shifting more from the west.  That lasted until Friday morning, and then it became nice again.

WATER:  Ugly is the term I have to use for our water conditions this past week, I sure hope things improve quickly.  On the Pacific side of the Cape we have had the warmest water at 72 degrees, and that has been in a big circulation just to the south of the San Jaime Bank.  It got as cold as 58 degrees right next to the beach just above the lighthouse mid-week.

Fishing Report

Fishbuster Charters’ Captain Dave Hanson reported, “Monday morning, I fished with Casey Serumba and friends in Estero Bay. We caught a couple of keeper snapper and released smaller snapper, a sheepshead and a snook. Casey had one nice red hooked but his drag was too loose, and once the red ran under the trees he was gone.

Fishing report for 5-28-08 from D. M. Navarro @ the World Class Angler in Marathon.

Its summertime and we are into some of the finest summer fishing we can have.  It may not be chronologically summer yet but the conditions are such.  Great tarpon fishing still abounds, both on the flats as well as around the area bridge channels.  Most of the day will produce action in one venue or the other for them.  In fact the flats themselves are alive with all types of activity throughout the area.

As far as the offshore scene is concerned, the dolphin are by far the highlight.  You can get off work, head out two or three miles beyond the reef in the afternoon and still have enough time to catch dinner for a week in an hour or two.  The fish are spread from just beyond the reef to well out.  The best areas have been along the current edge of the Gulf Stream.
