Fishing Reports

Exclusive ReportA great group of guys booked SeaSquared Charters specifically for a far Gulf trip to target big cobia. Capt. Chris Johnson took them approximately 50 miles out in the Gulf off Marathon. Conditions were perfect with unusually hot mid-November temperatures and slick calm Gulf waters. Perfect conditions. They hit two spots and accomplished their goal by catching 14 cobes in all. They kept just their limit of five and tagged and released the rest unharmed. All were in the 25 to 50-pound range, with the largest caught by Kurt Klipstein, who's new nickname is ""Cobia Kurt."" They also caught small gag grouper and goliath grouper. All fish were caught on live pinfish. On their second spot, they had them swimming all around the boat and it looked to be about 30 of them in the school. L-R: Mark ""Sparky"" Stebbing of Wyoming MN, Kurt Klipstein of New Hope MN, Scott Wiese of New Hope MN, Jeff Wangen of Marathon FL and Scott Menuey of Ft. Worth TX. Kurt's comment at the end of the day: ""I knew nothing of deep sea fishing. I was shown how to reel in the 'big one' and I did! I had a blast!"" Check the November 2008 section of the Photo Gallery for more great pictures from this trip.
