NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Digital Yacht have launched a new high performance dual channel AIS receiver with a price tag of just $249.95. The dual channel technology ensures continuous monitoring of both AIS frequencies to ensure the best possible performance. It’s highly sensitive and has an industry standard NMEA output so will interface with most leading chartplotters and multifunction displays.

Also available is the AIS200 Pro which has an additional USB output allowing the same device to interface with a PC based navigation system or with a traditional chartplotter. No complicated interfacing is required with a simple two wire connection and the unit will connect to any compatible VHF antenna.

With all commercial vessels over 300GRT required to have an AIS transponder, AIS is becoming an important "must have" technology for all leisure users. In simple terms, nearby ships and other vessels equipped with AIS are overlaid onto your chartplotter screen together with details of their identity, name and call sign. It greatly reduces the risk of collision. There are many advantages over the cost and complexity of adding a dedicated radar system on board a small yacht. It is also being increasingly used for yacht racing and tracking applications as well as vessel security.
