Jaguar Marine’s 35 Open-Fish |

This Cat Roars!Florida’s West Coast continues to rank as one of the top have-to-fish places. Excellent big-game fishing and some of the nation’s best bottom fishing start out at about 70 miles from shore, and continue to get even better the farther out into the Gulf you go. Over recent years, access to these ‘far from home’ prolific fishing grounds has been limited to large sportfishing yachts with enough fuel capacity, water, ice, and accommodations for a full crew to stay out for multiple days. Today, with Jaguar Marine’s 35’ Open-Fish, these same distant areas are now fishable on single day trips. This boat has it all going for it- economy, range, trailer-ability, fish-ability, and speed! The story started way before the introduction of the 35 Open-Fish. Jaguar Marine designed and manufactured high-performance offshore race boats that continue to push the envelope with nearly unimaginable speeds exceeding 160 mph! To this day, more than twenty years since race hull #1, Jaguar has never had a single hull failure of any kind. This flawless track record explains exactly why the company manufactures their new Open-Fish to the same standards as their legendary line of race boats. Such confidence is precisely why Jaguar offers a “Lifetime Hull Warranty.” With a comfortable cruise speed of 50 knots, and a range of over one thousand miles, Jaguar’s 35 Open-Fish is clearly a perfect cat for not only Florida’s West Coast fisheries, but island hopping, long distance Dry Tortugas and Keys adventures, Panhandle rig-hopping, and more. Next to Jack Clark, Jaguar Marine’s owner, no one knows the 35 Open-Fish better than Captain Turner, who along with his business partner, own Maximo Marine, the global dealer for Jaguar Marine’s 35 Open-Fish. Turner is just one of many professionals who have recently been “bitten” by a Jaguar. “I’ve been a private corporate captain for over twenty-five years, operating, selling, and servicing a number of high-end, high-visibility sport fishing yachts. Over the past three decades, I’ve been able to put together numerous tournament wins due to the very best of equipment and resources, equipment that has enabled me to locate and catch quality fish in remote and distant areas. After experiencing the Jaguar 35 Open-Fish for myself, and considering the boat’s range and fish-ability, I quickly came to the conclusion that the same exiting fisheries, recently limited to only large sport fishing yachts, are now wide open to a new breed of mid-size boat owners, especially those fishing a Jaguar 35 Open-Fish,” says Turner. With an internationally acclaimed race hull, it’s Turner’s opinion that Jaguar Marine 35' Open-Fish Catamaran provides the most stable, smooth, dry-running, mid-size sportfishing boat in her class. “For fishermen interested in serious offshore blue water battles, combining stability with a Lake X top speed of 87.9 mph with twin Mercury 300s, the 35 ft. Open-Fish is clearly a serious choice” added Turner. Creating one of these Jaguar Marine classics starts with the mold. When the mold is cured and ready, it receives at least six coats of wax before the process of "Laying Up" begins. With the exception of custom orders, (buyers can select to have the entire boat built of Kevlar), a Jaguar hull is essentially made up of three main layers- the laminate or outside skin, the core, and the fiberglass inside layer. The three layers are applied one on top of the next, at just the right curing time, so they create a continuous bond. This achieves a perfect marriage of strength and flexibility in a light-weight hull with positive buoyancy. Just prior to the first laminate, gel-coat is applied. Then for each successive layer of construction, Clark has scientifically determined the precise ‘gel time’, or exactly how much time he has until the resin sets into a solid form. Skilled craftsmanship and decades of experience get the materials and the vacuum bag laid down, and the pressure applied before the resin hardens. “Equal pressure applied to the laminate removes excess resin while also reducing air pockets between the fabric and the skin coat. At the completion of the vacuum phase, what you’re left with is a finished product with the glass literally pressed to the skin coat up against the mold in one solid form,” mentioned Clark. From there, the core is applied. Clark uses one inch thick Core-Cell, a rigid PVC foam instead of fabric, and instead of using Derakane vinyl ester resin which is used on fabric, Clark utilizes a Core-Bond Bedding compound system. Core-Cell is unique among rigid plastic foams since it can be compressed up to fifty percent of its thickness without rupture or crumbling of the cell walls. This makes Core-Cell ideal for use in construction of high-performance race boat hulls designed to take high-impact slamming loads and heavy pounding in open seas. Core-Cell has the remarkable ability to withstand loading well beyond the theoretical design value. The use of this type of linear foam provides a level of comfort and confidence for both the builder and owner. “And because it has memory,” Clark noted, "Core-Cell returns to its original shape after taking a hit. The added safety factor with no compromise in performance really provides the best of both worlds.” After the core foam has been vacuum-bagged into place throughout the entire hull, the first step or layer is repeated to create a "sandwich construction.” Step by step, the layers of the boat form from the outside to the inside. Clark also uses carbon-fiber and Kevlar in various support areas for greater strength. Once the bulkheads and stringers are installed, the boat is removed from the mold. Before the hull and fiberglass deck are joined, fuel tanks are installed. Deck and hull are then married in a double-bonding technique. What you’re left with is a super-strong 35 ft. catamaran tunnel hull which weighs approximately 100 pounds per foot. But enough about construction, Jaguar Marine’s 35 Open-Fish is no kitten when it comes to providing the goods for demanding hardcore sport fishermen. With its wide beam and cushioned bolsters, this cat means business! Saltwater washdown, large livewell, and enough room and rod holders for a fully loaded army of anglers, dictate why owners claim the 35 Open-Fish provides a spacious and stable platform for drifting with multiple kites flying, or trolling a full spread of favorite lures.
In conclusion, near-shore or off, we found Jaguar’s 35 Open-Fish to be a serious platform regardless of your forte’. It is platform that’s built to the highest of standards, one that is stable, spacious, efficient, incredibly strong, and blistering fast! Stats: 954.553.6996 www.JaguarMarine.com |
