Score Big By Using Advanced Cartography to Enhance Your Fishing |

Most anglers know the basics of their cartography – how to mark key spots with waypoints and how to “go to” to those spots. Many even know how to plan a route and maneuver their boat through tricky passages. However, sophisticated electronic charts like Platinum and Gold+ from Navionics, have a ton of other features designed specifically for enhancing your fishing experience. Shaded Depth Contours are one of the most underutilized features of cartography. The shaded depth contours in Navionics Platinum and Gold+ allow anglers to automatically highlight specific depth ranges. Anglers immediately eliminate waters that are unproductive and can focus on the most advantageous depths. Turning on this feature provides quick identification of drop-offs, sloping edges and other fish attracting transitions.
Both Navionics Platinum and Gold+ include an extensive wreck database that pinpoints thousands of wreck locations, including many around Florida. Some are unidentified but many are named, making it easy for anglers to find specific wrecks that have been “hot” in the past. Use these wrecks like a waypoint by select the wreck and planning a route or simply using the “go to” function. With Platinum, use the 3D bathymetric and 360-degree rotation features to view the best approach to the structure. The exaggeration feature included with some Navionics compatible chart-plotters makes it easy to see the details of any wreck. Navionics cartography is the most accurate and detailed on the market. Using their charts, anglers can head to a waypoint and immediately start fishing without having to waste valuable time finding the wrecks exact location. This also reduces the possibility of spooking fish with sonar ‘pings’ or overhead noise. Even in an angler’s backyard, structure can change or there may be features never before noticed. With Navionics’ accuracy and detail, anglers can find and mark hot spots and get the most out of every fishing trip.
