For Immediate Release

Michael Bennett Earns $1 Million as Youngest Angler Ever to Win the Forrest L. Wood Cup

Sturtevant, Wis., August 21, 2008 – BRP announces that Evinrude® professional angler Michael Bennett of Lincoln, California took home the $1 million paycheck at the Forrest L. Wood Cup (FLW) tournament in Columbia, South Carolina this weekend. At only 24 years of age, Bennett is the youngest angler to win the championship.

Bennett has been a loyal Evinrude professional angler for many years, but this is his first championship win. Veteran Evinrude angler Dion Hibdon of Stover, Missouri placed sixth, earning him $45,000

Bennett’s weight of 15 pounds, 5 ounces on day two put him in the lead going into the final round where the weights started over. And when day three of the tournament started with just 10 pros, Bennett started his tournament anew and secured his title armed with just a pair of frogs and his well laid out plan built the day before. His last catch for the day was his second biggest fish, helping him win the $1 million first place prize. Bennett had a two-day total weight of 24 pounds, 15 ounces

Bennett runs a Ranger Z520 with an Evinrude E-TEC® 225 HO horsepower engine and has seen great success with this fishing package. With two tournament wins and 13 top 10 finishes in his career, Bennett is selective with his boat and engine package. “I made the switch to Evinrude three years ago, and haven’t had any regrets,” claimed Bennett. “You need reliability in order to win tournaments and my Evinrude outboard has filled that need,” he concluded

“BRP is extremely proud of Michael for winning the FLW Championship,” stated Roch Lambert, vice president and general manager, Outboard Marine Engines, BRP. “We know anglers have a choice in how they power their boat and that choice is their livelihood. The Evinrude E-TEC engine has proven to satisfy the most discerning professional anglers in the tournament world and lead them to major wins such as the FLW Championship tournament,” he concluded.

About BRP For 100 years, the Evinrude name has been synonymous with boating innovation. Today’s Evinrude E-TEC engines deliver an unmatched boating experience, with more power, better fuel efficiency and less maintenance than any other engine. Evinrude E-TEC outboards have garnered many environmental awards, such as the EPA Clean Air Technology Award. All this means more of what boaters want most: spending more time on the water.
