Moving the Needle from Eco-Friendly to Eco-Safe

As the marine industry strives to become more environmentally friendly in the face of concerns over Global Warming, EPA pressures and rising consumer demand, a number of companies have jumped on the bandwagon by offering “green” products and services. But Mariner’s Choice International isn’t satisfied with merely being “friendly” to the environment.

A leading manufacturer of marine cleaning and maintenance solutions, bilge and holding tank treatments, and fuel additives for the recreational and commercial marine markets, the company is committed to developing products that are actually “eco-safe”.

“Mariner’s Choice takes the concept of environmental stewardship to the next level,” says Peter Hellwig, vice president. “Not only are our products biodegradable, but, specifically they are biodegradable in twenty-eight days or less.”

The company isn’t stopping there, however. Mariner’s Choice products also work.

“Mariner’s Choice does not fall victim to what we call the ‘30-30-30 Rule’ – the common perception that environmentally friendly products of the past are thirty percent less effective, cost thirty percent more and you have to work thirty percent harder to get them to perform,” Hellwig said. “We’ve overcome these hurdles, allowing marine facility operators and marine consumers alike to benefit from products that are competitively priced and do not sacrifice performance.”

Whole-Boat Solutions
Offering one of the most extensive lines of environmentally responsible aftermarket products in the boating industry, the company categorizes its eco-safe products into distinct Solutions Categories. “Mariner’s Choice is one of the only manufacturers that provide performance-oriented solutions across several different categories, including aesthetic surfaces, vessel infrastructures and personal care, while being entirely eco-safe,” Hellwig says. The company has designed an attractive POP (Point of Purchase) display that combines its products for retail convenience in a small footprint.

The Deck Solutions includes highly efficient cleaning and maintenance products for aesthetic surfaces marketed under product names including Clean-N-Green, Clean-N-Fresh and Sparkle-N-Shine, Wipe-N-Clean, among others. These products, which are offered at both regular and industrial strengths, are formulated using advanced technology for superior performance without leaving or emitting harmful chemical residue.

The Below-Deck Solutions from Mariner’s Choice goes down to the machinery spaces to tackle systems that are normally treated with very caustic agents such as holding tanks, sanitation systems, fuel systems and bilges. The Treat-N-Fresh line allows recreational boat owners to maintain and optimize these systems with highly effective chemicals that are all-natural based, avoiding the addition of highly toxic agents commonly found in these treatments from being pumped overboard into the already fragile marine ecosystem or into on-shore holding/treatment facilities.

The company also offers a line of Personal Care Solutions that allow boat owners to lower their environmental impact on-board, in the marina and at home. Wash-N-Clean Laundry detergent, for example, uses the power of oxygen to clean and is free of phosphates, dyes, chemicals, chlorine bleaches, solvents and abrasives. Again, preventing treated waste water containing harsh chemicals from being pumped over board or into holding facilities.

While many environmentally friendly product manufacturers are strictly regional in nature, Mariner’s Choice International, Inc. is a publically traded company on NASDAQ, symbol MCII.pk, with full-scale operations in Toronto, Canada and Jacksonville, Fla. The company has put in place sufficient manufacturing capacity to easily service its growing, eco-conscious customer base with no supply-chain issues. The company aims to attract users of its products based on performance first and foremost, while the end-result will be a “greener” marine population as a result of the company’s formulations.
