The 15th Annual Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament was held May 7th in the world famous Boca Grande Pass. The highly anticipated event began15 years ago when a group of women decided to head out for a day of tarpon fishing with their ‘guide’ husbands who regularly fish Boca Grande Pass for tarpon each year.

On the first weekend of February 2008, Lena Black, an avid angler from Pompano Beach, Florida, arranged a fishing trip to Chub Cay in the Northern Bahamas. Lena has been a member of the Ladies Let’s Go Fishing organization for six-years, and has been an avid angler for as long as she can remember.

It’s pretty amazing that only five-years ago Jodie Johnson had never even picked up a fly-rod and today she has tallied 99 saltwater records on fly. With three new records pending, Jodie is on the brink of becoming the first angler in history to set 100 IGFA saltwater fly-rod records. Johnson has traveled to some of the world’s most exotic destinations including the Seychelles, Mozambique, the Maldives, Australia, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Bahamas and most recently, the Florida Keys.

As the world record coordinator for the International Game Fish Association, Rebecca Wright handles each and every application submitted for a possible world, line-class, women’s, junior, fly or state fishing record. While managing and organizing the hundreds of applications received annually, Rebecca has her work cut out for her, however, don’t think for a second that her expertise ends there.
