Fishing Report October 15th, 2009

This morning we took Mark and his wife out fishing from Omaha. It was a beautiful day! We caught live ballyhoo at “the can” and continued on our way. We headed offshore to about 350-400 feet and deployed a full set of live ballyhoo. We were slow trolling for about 35 minutes... no action.

I decided that I needed to use the head, so I had Chris lock up the reels and come up to drive, while I headed down below. It only seemed like a second, but while I was still in the restroom, I heard a loud thump hit the deck! It was Chris feeding a couple mahi mahi while I was gone. As I came out of the salon, Mark already had one up to the boat. Chris was back up on the wheel and I gaffed the fish, slinging him into the boat. The other one was still on the line and I missed the 3rd one that was eating the ballyhoo out of the rigger.

Fishing Report

Mark went ahead and reeled the 2nd one right up… he had the same destiny as the first. Two beautiful mahi! I’m sorry to say that the camera lost battery power, so I was unable to get any pictures of these beautiful fish (shame on me!). We slow trolled a little longer with the remaining ballyhoos, but to no avail. We were looking hard for an Atlantic Sailfish. We came in shore and went on the troll, catching 4 king mackerel to wrap up the day. Thanks for the trip… we hope you guys had as much fun as we did!
