15th Annual Kids Fishing Derby

Dear Friends and Fellow Anglers,

We are proud to announce the 15th Annual Kids Fishing Derby will be held on September 30th at the Lorelei Restaurant and Marina. As in the past, it is your generous support that has made and grown the tournament into the huge success that it has become. We are most grateful.

Kathy Lewis, the events founder, is determined to keep the kids fishing. This year we will be a Monroe County resident event with angler’s ages 0-10. As always, this NO ENTRY FEE Derby’s sole intent is to spark the interest in fishing and launching a passion for the outdoors in our area’s children. This is a great day for parents and family members to participate in a great day of fishing, sportsmanship, and learning.

Lorelei Restaurant and Marina will serve as tournament headquarters and official weigh station. Conservation and good sport fishing ethics will be emphasized. Mangrove Mike’s will kick off the event on Sunday at 6:30AM with free coffee and donuts as anglers pick up their ditty bags and get ready to go fishing. Lines for fishing are in the water at 9AM and the weigh scales close at 1 PM. Lorelei will chum the waters around the property for shoreline fisherman. A casting contest will be held on the beach and free hot dogs will be served as usual compliments of Lorelei. A great media covered awards ceremony will wrap up the day’s festivities.

We are once again asking for your support through the donation of prizes and awards (1 or more items), and/or ditty bag stuffers (150 or any fraction thereof, like items): Stickers, Patches, Flyers Newsletters Coloring Books, Clothing Hats, Caps, Cups, Sunglasses, Tools, Tackle Items, Rods, Reels, Lures, Memberships, Gift Certificates, Coupons, Etc. are all items that our kids will be thrilled to receive. Any and all donations are graciously accepted and will be divided amongst our tournament’s anglers. A list of all contributors will be placed in the angler’s bags and announced at the awards ceremony. Any supplied banners or signs will be prominently displayed and gladly returned on request.

Once again IFACT (Islamorada Fishing and Conservation Trust) will be sponsoring our angler trophies. If you would like to send a contribution to help defray costs for chum, advertising, sodas, bait, etc. please make checks payable to IFACT, a 501.c-3 organization, and they will help us pay the bills. You may drop off any items at the Lorelei mile marker 82 Bayside or mail to Lorelei P.O. Box 429, Islamorada, FL 33036.
