Tarpon World Report for
Tarpon Fly Fishing (April 5-8)
Greetings from the fabulous Florida Keys: On April 5, 2016 My friend Warren Marshal went Tarpon fly fishing with me aboard “Fly Reel” in Tarpon World between 11:30 PM and 3:30 AM. Fishing was a little slow tonight, however Warren managed to hook and jump three, and catch one nice Tarpon of roughly 100 pounds. We had fun and are waiting for the big push of fish to arrive.
April 6, and 7, 2016, found three generations of the Butler family here to try their luck at catching giant Tarpon on fly. Don, John, & Meredith also went Tarpon fly fishing aboard “Fly Reel” for two nights, with the wind moving around in all directions, the Tarpon are finicky and hard to get to eat the fly. The first night we jumped four big Tarpon, and John managed to land a fish of 90 pounds. During our second night the wind was north and cold, we jumped to Tarpon but none were caught.
April 8, 2016 found Kay and JD Fish, from North Carolina aboard “Fly Reel” trying to be success at Tarpon fly fishing. We left the dock at 1:30 AM and headed up pelican slew to silver king bank, I heard a couple poons feeding so we started fishing in that area. Unfortunately the wind was cold and from the north, the water temperature has dropped from 84 degrees on April 1 down to 77 degrees tonight. This turned off the bite, and we never got a bite tonight.
As I write this report at 6 PM on April 9, the wind has gone back to the eastern quadrant and is blowing warm air at 10 knots. This should turn on the bite this evening, JD and Kay will meet me at the boat tonight at 2:30 Am and we will fish till the sun comes up. I feel like tonight the fish will show up and be ready for action, cant wait to get there. By the way, I love my job, wish you were here, Please stay tuned for more Tarpon fly fishing and other reports to follow.
