Greetings from Costa Rica:
I am visiting with my good friend George Beckwith in Los Suenos, Costa Rica, to fish with his captain (James Smith) and mates (Berto and Marcos) aboard George’s fine 43 foot vessel “Dragin Fly”. We are sstaying in a condo in Hermosa beach and fishing out of Los Suenos.
On December first we rode along with George’s clients Sam and Ronda Brown from NC. They each caught some dorado, along with several sailfish, it was fun for me watching the crew aboard “Dragin Fly” do their magic with these nice folks. At two PM we decided to check out the fly fishing, ten minutes later I had released my first sailfish on fly of this trip. Next we raised a double, I hooked the first sail, then George hooked the other one, unfortunately, the first fish pulled the hook on a jump, and the other one broke off when the line came tight around the reel handle. A really fun day, I enjoyed the professionalism of James and his fine crew aboard Dragin Fly.
December 2, 2013, today George and I were the Anglers, I caught a big sailfish on fly first thing in the morning, then we raised several more sales which were not very aggressive, around mid day we raised a nice Striped Marlin, I cast and caught that Marlin on my third cast of the day, on a pink Cam Sigler popper fly. later we raised another Striped Marlin, George cast to that fish, however the fish never ate the fly. At 2:00 PM we raised a 100 pound Blue Marlin, it teased in, and I made a cast to my favorite fish, the marlin faded away and never touched my fly, almost a Slam! All in all a good day with a really good boat and crew, Thanks George!
December 3 2013, we are heading out to catch a Blue Marlin on fly today, I am excited. I love my job, wish you were here. Next week I am off to Casa Vieja fro more world class Billfish on the Fly. Stay tuned for more reports.
