Hey everyone! Hope all is well. I had been craving some redfish lately so I decided to fish the Snake Bight area east of the Flamingo marina hoping to score a slot-size red. After a long drive from Miami Lakes, I finally reached the marina, launched the kayak and began my long trek to the fabled fishing grounds. Since I was unfamiliar with that particular area I spent half of the day venturing along the shoreline east of Snake Bight and came across some local crocodiles, tons of feeding activity as well as spooking a few big redfish in the process. Frustrated with the slow bite, I sought some advice from a nice gentleman and his wife (who was fishing the same channel as I was) after they landed a nice redfish. He willingly shared his knowledge about how to fish the outgoing tide in the area. Extremely grateful for the man’s insight I proceeded to fish the deep channels as instructed. About an hour after my conversation with the gentleman I found a nice channel which branched out from the main channel and decided to work that spot. Within 10 minutes of getting there I had a fish erupt on my topwater lure, it was a nice redfish! After a great fight I finally landed the 23″ keeper, I was super thrilled! I continued working the same channel and produced about 5 small snook with a Live Target shrimp lure. After a slow start, the day ended with an exclamation mark and a nice redfish in the cooler. Flamingo is an angler’s paradise…especially if you know where to fish, when to fish and what to fish with!

Wishing everyone tight lines,
Nick
