Fishing ReportsWest-Central

Homosassa Fishing Report: The heat was on today. I will be glad when we lose a little of the humidity but I know we are really close to a great time of year to be a angler. Red fish are still the best bet for inshore fish. High incoming tide is the best time to fish and free lined live shrimp have been the choice bait. I look for big bunches of mullet working along the keys before I shut the motor off and begin to pole the boat. I believe the more stealth that you use to approach fish the better you have at a chance to really set up and catch them until your arms are tired. The best areas have been Ozello Keys, St. Martins Keys and east of Chassahowitzka Point.

The near shore rocks are still producing good catches of mangrove snapper with free lined line shrimp. Other species that are also mixed in with them are spanish mackerel, sea bass, flounder and small gag grouper. I have had the best luck with the rocks a bout 3 miles west of marker # 2 from the Homosassa channel. Scalloping continues to be strong just south of Chassahowitzka Tower and I wish today I was diving for them because it was HOT! Look for a full moon incoming tide this weekend in the the morning lasting until mid afternoon.
