Homosassa Redfish

Homosassa Fishing Report

Excellent catches of redfish are coming to the dock at MacRae’s of Homosassa. Most any outside key on the high incoming tide will have a few fish on it especially on the rocky points. Another good way to locate some Fall redfish is to look for large schools of mullet. If you are lucky there have been big schools of over slot redfish roaming around the outside keys. These fish are very fun to catch and I admit that I get very excited when my clients can hook up on some of these big fish. If you are fortunate enough to catch a few please take care of them at the boat side and release them unharmed so they can give use many more Homosassa redfish. Top baits have been free line live shrimp, Eppinger Rex gold spoons and MirrOlure LIL’ Johns. I’ve been catching limits of mangrove snapper while red fishing with shrimp. It’s been one of the best years for mangrove snapper that I can remember.

A few trout have shown up and I believe as we get into October, trout fishing will be very good. The best spots have been west of Homosassa Point, Long Point and North West Key. The best bait is the D.O.A. Deadly Combo with a 3” shrimp in golden bream with glow tail. ( number 383 ) High incoming tide this weekend will be a good one in the afternoon thanks to the new moon.
