LIVETARGET Becomes the Exclusive Artificial Lure of the International Roosterfish Tournament

Niagra-on-the-Lake, ON – LIVETARGET has been selected as the Exclusive Artificial Lure for the 2017 International Roosterfish Tournament (IRT).  The announcement comes after 50 golden years of being a live bait only fishing tournament.

The decision to award LIVETARGET as the artificial lure of choice was based on both lure design offerings and conservation. According to Jack Snyder IRT Sponsorship Director, “we were looking for a lure company that had the most realistic Mullet lures and a strong single hook design as our event is 100% catch-and-release.  Mullet are key forage for Roosterfish, and we think the LIVETARGET Mullet Swimbait will be a great addition to this year’s event.  Each year, tournament boats run out of their allocation of live bait, and the supplement of ‘Match-the-Hatch’ forage with the LIVETARGET artificials will make for extended competition.”

The 51st IRT will take place on June 8-11, 2017 at Los Barillas BC, Mexico and is already fully booked with an international roster of anglers set to compete.  As an official IGFA qualifying event, the venue draws anglers ready to compete at the highest levels.

Gary Abernethy, Marketing Manager at LIVETARGET commented on the quick growth the LIVETARGET Swimbaits have had into the saltwater sector. “Immediately after Swimbaits started to land in Florida this past winter, we started getting calls and photos from saltwater anglers reporting big snook, gator trout, and reds coming on the swimbaits. What surprised us was the inventive nature of some saltwater guides and anglers who started catching grouper, snapper, amberjacks, and other species with unique rigging and techniques. We’ll be excited to see all the IRT anglers put these lures to the test on the hard-fighting and spectacular Roosterfish. We are especially pleased that after 50 years of live-baiting, the tournament board selected LIVETARGET for its inaugural event with artificial lures allowed.”

Tournament anglers will fish a combination of individual and team scoring over the three day event, and all anglers will rotate across different boat assignments on each tournament day. LIVETARGET will report catches and images from the event as they are announced and posted by the tournament committee.
