Things keep getting better and better for what is recognized by many as the ‘World Series’ of sailfishing. On the heels of a tremendously successful season, Bluewater Movements, owner/operators of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series have announced that they will be moving Final Sail, the championship leg of the series, to Key West, FL for the coming season. The event is scheduled for April 15-19, 2015.
“A world class event deserves a world class location,” said Jamie Bunn, Executive Director of the Quest Series. “We have been looking at this location for a while, but did not want to move forward until we felt the timing was right,” said Bunn. “Based on extensive conversations with our teams and sponsors, the time is now. We are extremely excited to bring a premier event to the city of Key West and its local businesses. We are also excited to utilize the event as a platform to help support localized needs in Key West from a charitable standpoint,” Bunn also stated.
In keeping with the championship format of the tournament, a cap on entries will be implemented for the Final Sail event in Key West. Additional details regarding the event will be available at www.finalsail.com and www.questforthecrest.com.
The move to Key West is not the only change that will occur with the upcoming 2014/15 Quest for the Crest Series. At the backbone of the series is the chase for the elusive Crest Jacket and the title of #1 sailfishing team in the world. To claim this achievement, teams are required to demonstrate their skills in 4 different locations across the series. Those 4 locations span between Palm Beach, Broward, Dade and Monroe counties. A new event, The Sailfish 400 will take place in Miami on January 14-18, 2015, to replace the Final Sail event, previously held in Miami in April. With a bit of a race car theme built into its name there are bound to be some exciting affiliations and promotions with The Sailfish 400. Stay tuned to www.questforthecrest.com for all the details!
The Sailfish Challenge, the largest sailfishing tournament in the world, will hold a pivotal position as the 3rd leg in the series and final opportunity for teams to make a strong statement for the jacket before they head south for the championship leg in Key West. The Sailfish Challenge is held in Ft. Lauderdale on February 5-8, 2015 and hosted by the IGFA Hall of Fame Museum, a spectacular location for a a billfish tournament of its caliber.
Teams that have enjoyed fishing with Bluewater Movements in the Jimmy Johnson National Billfish Championship will still have that opportunity despite the fact that the event will not be a qualifying leg for the Quest Series. Jimmy’s highly touted championship billfish rings, a tremendous cash purse and a ton of fun will all be up for grabs at the JJNBC event on March 18-22, 2015 in Key Lago, FL.
