North Biscayne Bay Fishing Report: May 24th, 2014
I decided to fish the grass flats on my kayak just south of Pelican Harbor Marina in Miami for some trout action. The day started off very promising; the weather was gorgeous, the bay was glass calm and I could see isolated schools of mullet and pilchards slapping the surface just east of Bird Key. Upon spotting the commotion I proceeded to head in that direction assuming that predatory fish weren’t too far away…and sure enough I was right! About 10 minutes after arriving to the spot I landed a keeper sea trout and mangrove snapper. As the day progressed the wind started to pick up so I paddled toward shallower grass flats. I was working a top-water plug and caught 2 nice barracuda that will make an outstanding “escabeche” dish courtesy of my mom. Overall it was a great day on the water and I’m already looking forward to the next trip!
Wishing everyone tight lines,
Nick
