Stuart

So glad March is here…. Everything is about as good as it gets. Water is warming up, bait is starting to load up inside the lagoon, and the stage is set for memorable days. I have been fishing both Fort Pierce and Stuart regularly with both areas being equally productive.

We have caught some nice slot redfish mostly in Fort Pierce on the flats and I have seen some big bull reds after they saw me first. Sightfishing has been tough on my recent trips due to water clarity. I tend to use rattles in DOA shrimp, DOA CALs, and topwaters, something that makes noise and/or vibration in the dirty water. While redfishing around structure we have found plenty of croaker, black drum, and sheepshead.

Snook have turned on in Fort Pierce and Stuart. I have caught them around bridges, docks, seawalls, mangroves, almost everywhere! Live bait is hard to beat for quality fish but skipping DOAs around docks can be equally productive. Laura and I got out on a perfect day in the morning. We each caught several quality snook, lost bigger fish, and wore out the jacks. Boat was on the trailer at 11am.

The trout bite has been consistent in Fort Pierce and Stuart as well. Shrimp on a popping cork or a DOA deadly combo is flat out productive. It’s a great way to catch all species and anybody can do it. I have caught a few trout on the new DOA Airhead in the pearl color. It is also a simple lure to work and fishing with it through some of winter, I am very impressed.

I fished one day on the beach out of Fort Pierce looking for cobia. The cobia were tough to spot due to water clarity but we were not leaving the beach empty handed. We ended the day with a nice mixed bag of redfish, black margate, pompano, and snapper simply fishing reefs close to shore with live shrimp. Plenty of sharks to have fun with out there as well, mostly spinner sharks and hammerheads mixed in.
Looking forward to this week…..Stay tuned
